Looks like a wind up clock mechanism in the upper right second pic. Can you wind it up and see what happens? I think I see a hanging weight.

Can you tell us the numbers on the large dial first pic?

ya it's not a clock, the dial reads from 0-200..there's only electronics in the back, and there's no way to wind it up. it seems like some kind of radio..but I don't know enough about them to be sure..

I realize its not a clock. I am referring to the mechanism in the upper right hand corner. You have it in person, I am only looking at a pic, but it appears to be a wind up spring. :dontknow:

Another question- does it have a cord to plug in?

Are there any letters on the dials?

I do not know how to links to web pages, but I believe it is some form of Commercial temperature controller.

I'd love to see some larger pictures of the front of this thing.

I cannot find any old photo's of a temperature controller, but it sure appears to be something along that line. The six black "buttons" visible along the bottom front when viewed on the photo of the backside show wires attached to the studs comming from these "buttons". The large black "button" on the front, when viewed from the backside shows electrial studs on it as well, similar to a push button switch. With all the electrical connections showing in the back, it does not appear to be a type of scale, but more of an electrical gizmo.

ya there is a load spring, but I can only activate it when I manually move the solenoid plunger..it ticks and makes one gear advancement every time I activate the plunger. it's almost like some kind of electronic counting divice... ???

Just noticed the black metal hook in the first picture, bottom left. What is the lettering on the bottom six black buttons?

ok, the first three black nobs say GND ANT and TEL the second three nobs say the same. when I pull the small brass looking nob out the thing starts up and gears start turning. the big black nob is a resistor dial and the bigger brass looking nob controls were the dial is pointing...also, there's a switch in the back that looks like it's made to interrupt or bypass the current while the unit is running. this thing was supposed to get power somehow, and I think it's from one of the small black nobs, because they twist off and reveal what looks like an electrical post...but I still have know idea what this bugger is .. :D

Ground, Antenna, Telephone?

It may be battery operated. Look for something that says lead voltage or + and -

...getting interesting.

There should be a manufacturers plate or model number somewhere.

I was thinking possibly a temp control for a kiln. The large face could represent degrees up to 2000. Glass melts at around 1400 to 1600 degrees. The annealing process is time based in stages. It appears that there's a striker plate and solenoid in the middle bottom area. There is a plunger style off and on switch attached to the right side of the timer mechanism with wires coming out of the bottom it. If these wires are attached to the solenoid it would be sort of like a doorbell announcing that its time to lower the heat. Just a guess. What do the small series of black knobs have written on them? Forget it. The knobs say antenna, ground and teletype, telephone.

The black face plate resembles an Atwater Kent radio, the rest of it resembles a power/band indicator.
Some of the early telegraphs used a glass tube filed with s Silver/nickel dust. an electrical charge would cause the metals to clump,or "coher" to one either acting as a switch,or visual indicater.
A clockwork mechanism was necessary to break up the powder by shaking the tube.
This was known as a decoherer.
I remember reading about this in a C1958 Popular Electronics magazine.
This may be useless trivia, but there it is..

I sure would like to see a close-up pic of the knobs :read2:
