along with some silver and a nice gold ring. I am pretty sure it is a watch fob and it has a coon or fox on the front, I am leaning towards coon, and am wondering how to clean it so I can read it. Can I use steel wool and get through the crud and down to the brass without messing it up? I sure would like to read what it says. I hope it is an old trapping related fob. Thanks for any info...d2

Very cool find d2, reminds me of a boyscout metal but I can't find one to match. I'll be watching. Nice find.

It very well could be cub scout or boy scout related. Think I will take some 0000 steel wool to it here directly...d2

Nice find.. Fob looks old & well used may not be much left to ID..go easy w/ the steel wool..even light use can take off more patina than you want to..

I would give it a mineral oil bath for a day before the steel wool, if it were mine

nhbenz nailed it!!! I found out about 10 minutes ago by lightly using steel wool on it. Only one side is sorta readable. The mineral in the river water here eats stuff up except for silver and gold. Thanks for the info, Ben. Only way I would of been happier is if it had been in a lot better shape. Thanks again...d2

I wouldnt clean it at all other that maybe a soft brush, mild dish soap and water.., but only if there is crud on it. It just looks worn.
