What part of the country are you from? That CAF was used around here during the tranitional paleo period and then again during the late archaic and early woodland with a distinct missing period in the middle. The only piece that I have seen from the paleo period was a later style scottsbluff...worked so long ago that the material had turned grey...almost white, virtually impossible to fake that patina. I have found a couple of woodland pieces made from that very same material that was still jet black... I got my hands on some of that stuff raw and found that it was almost impossible to flintknapp unless you were exceptionally skilled. Very poor material to work with... which makes that paper thin, almost white scottsbluff I seen almost unbelievable.. CAF to some, cool to others.
