When I first got permission to swing on this old home site I was told that it was only that, an old home. However, doing online research and visiting the local library and historical museum led me to believe that there was much more to this place. Additional research (title, deed, aerial, and talking to local residents) showed that this place has been occupied since roughly 1897 through 1972.

For the last couple of years I’ve only been serious about swinging around the old home, but I was basing my concentration areas on the aerial picture from 1962. My research found a USDA picture from 1953 that showed a LOT more! Barn and outbuildings in 53, but gone in the 62 shot. I definitely changed my search location.

This past weekend I found the barn area. The attached pictures are only the big stuff that I located within the area of the “barn”. Several brass D buckles, and other smaller items, aren’t in these pictures. Nails EVERYWHERE.

The small sad iron in the picture was found between the house and the barn.

Once I get through all of the iron, there has to be some goodies in there too!

The following was gathered in a 2 hour search. It started raining and I had to leave. To get to this place is a mile drive through cultivated land on already soft ground, the rain would have me stuck.

Come on Summer!

Well done! Those old aerials are extremely useful... imagine what we could know about the land if that tech existed during the colonial period and the early days of our country.

Nice!!! Congrats!!!

They probably burned the old barn and all the nails got left behind. All my old house sites are like that. Gary

The old axe lived a hard life! Would look good cleaned up.

I'm almost certain of that scenario. Still gotta dig em all though.

That and the sad iron will get an electrolysis bath soon. The landowner loved the little sad iron, so I'll clean it up and give it back to her.
