In 1965, 1966, 1967 there was no proof sets. Also they did away with the mint marks those years to stop people from hoarding to many coins. If they made P & D people would have collected both mint marks thus taking more coins out of circulation. For the reason of no mint marks they didnt make proof sets just SMS(special mint sets) Not like the typical mint set in the envelope and coins sealed in cello wrap. The sets were made by using capital plastic holders that screw together that held a half, quarter, dime, nickel, and cent. The coins that were used for these had almost a proof like finish, and very rarely had a cameo, like the one shown here. SMS coins carry a premium in higher grades. The 1964 SMS dime for example in ms67 carries a price tag of $4,000. I hope this helps.

Nice fine Yinzi50

Happy Hunting,

Can you tell the difference from a proof coin to a business(regular) coin. It looks like a proof coin but it is not. It will have mirror finish on the smooth parts instead of a satin type look. Basically if you hold the two next to each other the SMS will have better eye appeal.

I hope this below helps all that are confused. The info below is from coinfacts.com.

The info below is for Kenn Halves

1965
The Proof mintage is for Special Mint Sets, which contained specially prepared coins that were not quite up to Proof standards.
1966

1967
