I had the day off today so I went to the camp for a few hours. I was detecting very close to where TreasureFiend and I hunted the last few times, however, this spot was COVERED in briar patches and "stickers". Imagine my surprise when I got a good deep signal and recovered a 1908 Barber dime. TreasureFiend, they ARE here. It's worn and a bit thin but it's nice to dig a 100-year-old coin anytime.

After I dug the Barber, I got another signal next to it, just as deep, giving me numbers in the 50's and 60's, indicating zinc penny or similar composition. Thinking I was about to dig an Indian Head cent, I went to it, but soon discovered the item was actually a sterling silver crucifix. It says "altar boy" on the front, and a bunch of Catholic stuff on the back, with "sterling" stamped on it, much like the one TreasureFiend found, just smaller. Why the M6 told me zinc cent, I don't know. All I know is that I'm glad I dig practically any positive number in the woods (except foil; 0-8).

I also got a 1946 D wheat and a 1988 Jefferson nickel (?!?!?) in the same area. I also dug some more scout buttons and a whole lot of trash. I might head out one more time this weekend, we'll see. TF, holla at ya boy!

WOW BUD!!!! Great hunting!!! I am going to go out on Sat & Sun, let me know when you are gonna be there!!! I knew there was barbers out there!!!! :icon_pirat:

Man you sure know how to max out that M6!!!

Way to go Joe! Was the camp flooded out last week?

Nice finds, Joe!  That Barber and cross are sweet!

Last time I was in the woods by the river with Watercolor, I saw an old woman and almost ran the other way! She was one of the forest preserve residents and maybe she wasn't that old, but she was sure scary!!! :o

TreasureFiend,

Thanks for the props. You didn't find your Barber today, but you will one day. There's one in the briar patch with your name written all over it.

Lowbatts,

No, the camp was dry. The vast majority of the camp is far enough away from the river to be overtaken.

Kimsdad,

Sounds like one of the Greenpeace women. Hugging trees like there's no tomorrow. lol
