Had sort of a rough weekend; found four cellar holes deep in the woods in different areas and all four had already been hit at some point or another. Usually you can still find bits and pieces that have been missed, but they must have know what they were doing because try as I might I could find nothing besides big iron.
I went to my big field permission for a redemption shot and, just as the sun was setting I pulled this out of the ground.
I'm cleaning it now, but there's enough detail under the dirt to identify it as a Phalons token from 1837! Below is a non-dug example.
Sadly there doesn't seem to be a 35 Bowery St in NYC these days or at least no barber, so I can't go and redeem it for my free haircut.
Here's the token after the first-pass hydrogen peroxide. It's amazing how much detail is left for a copper field coin. It almost looks like the Phelons side had a thin layer of silver plate which is left on some of the raised lettering. Souvenir maybe?
