What's weird is it was found in this small creek in the woods, any mortar experts in here that can help with how old or what military branch this might be from?

EOD came and removed it from my magnet and took it, may have been used in testing. What's weird is when I was young in the 1990's, a kid brought a mortar shell to school and it went off injuring a lot of people in band class.

Here is the blog I wrote on my website about my outing today

Thank god it never blew up while you were reeling it in.......

Thats a cool find can you get it back once they disarm it or will they explode it

Interesting, but it's not a mortar. It's either an aerial bomb that would have been dropped from a plane, or a rifle grenade. It's hard to tell without seeing it in person.

no close ups or other pics? Interesting find

What area was this found?

Update, it was destroyed already. I called EOD this morning. They said they did not bother doing any diagnostics on it before destroying it, some say it's a MK-76 practice bomb, others are saying they should be blue and white but this one looks to be many decades old

Very interesting find, glad you were not hurt! :icon_thumleft:
