FINALLY!!! I got out detecting again! Been way too long. I hit my in laws house which was built in the early to mid 1890's, but has had houses on it the land since the late 1830's. I have hit that yard many times and most of the time I find junk since it is right in the middle of the city and sees a lot of walking traffic, especially through their yard. But, on rare occasions I do find something good, and today was one of them! I hadn't been there more than 20 min and I got a 50-60 reading on my ATP. That typically is junk but knowing what could be there and the fact that it was such a clean signal I had to dig it. Now, for most everyone who is from Michigan knows, much of what we find is DEEP! The ground here seems to suck up everything. So when I found this clinging to the roots of the grass I was shocked! Out pops a Michigan Military Academy two piece button! Now, I watch everyone on YouTube from out east and down south popping out civil war buttons and artillery buttons, etc, etc, etc. I've never had hopes of finding something like that here because there hasn't really been much to do here, as far as military stuff goes. This was pretty cool! And a first! Come to find out, there was a military academy in Oakland county from 1877-1908 and at one point was dubbed the the "second West Point". Michigan Military Academy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Anyway, it was really nice to find something that specific in our little ole town. Too bad the back is completely gone, but beggars can't be choosers! Found some other interesting things as well. Thanks looking, always welcome advice and insight and HH!
