The weather was a perfect 62 degrees and sunny, so I HAD to get out and do some hunting today. My buddy was busy with doctors appointments all day, so I was flying solo. I went to my buddy's 1830s house and hammered that pretty hard for about 4 hours without much luck, so I decided to brave the massive amounts of trash at our new farm field permission. This is the same place my buddy found his Morgan Dollar a few days ago. As expected, I was finding a ton of can slaw and pull tabs, but not much else. I was about to head back to the car when I got a solid 82 on the AT Pro. It seemed pretty small, so I thought it was a penny. I dug down about 6 inches and rechecked the hole. The signal was still there, but MUCH louder. At this point I figured it was a can or some other big piece of junk. The thought crossed my mind that it could be a Civil War belt plate, so I kept digging. Another 6 or so inches down, and I see the rim of a canning jar lid... and it was still attached to the jar! I figured that the jar was probably broken, but I took out my phone to film the recovery just in case it was a complete jar filled with gold coins . 20 minutes of careful digging revealed a complete 1920s/1930s canning jar. Only it wasn't filled with gold coins, darn! Instead it was filled with 80+ year old liquor! I have no idea what it is, but it will burn your nose hairs off! This stuff was likely buried during the prohibition and, for some reason, was never recovered. Maybe he/she drank too much before burying it and forgot where it was . It's a little chunky, so I really don't have any plans to try it out. I'll leave that honor to someone else! Well, it wasn't my jar of gold coins, but it definitely ranks up there with one of my most interesting finds! Thanks for looking and HH!
