Hello everyone! I am trying to find any information on the horseshoe I found last year in the Tennessee River about 7 miles downriver from Shiloh battlefield. I found it washed up on the beach with a lot of mussel shells. I also found a barge bolt there. I think it is an area that things must collect from the current of the river. The horseshoe as you can see is very deteriorated and there is only half. I think I see 3 nail holes. It is also magnetic. It was extremely rusted when I found it. I soaked it in vinegar for a week taking each day to careful remove the dirt and rust with a toothbrush and this is what I have ended up with. Any ideas of the dating for it? I do not go out in search of relics or anything. I just walk the beach and find cool things. I am a history person though and absolutely love to learn new things about the area I am located in. Thank you to anyone who can help me or point me in the right direction of researching about it. Let me also add I found it 1/2 mile from the Rudd's ferry crossing at the Cherry Mansion.

I think that horseshoe is too far gone to tell you much of anything except that somebody, some time ago, had a horse in the area.

Well I can't help with aging it but am curious also. I have found 40-50 like it here in Middle Tennessee. But I can tell you those horseshoes remind me...... of me.

It appears quite fibrous so it me be wrought. I’m no expert though and others may correct me. If it is wrought that may point you to a time period.
