Hey I found this gold nugget metal detecting in my woods and I was wondering how much it is worth. Here is its specs

It weighs: .2525 of and ounce so around a 3 tenths of an ounce

It is 1 inch by 1/2 inch

Do any of y’all know how much it could possibly be worth?

Approx. $15

Photo baby! We need to see the shape and color!:icon_thumright:

$15????
I'm reading his post as a quarter ounce, not sure if it's imperial or troy oz but still a nice find.
Try weighing in grams for a better estimate.

Let us see a picture please:hello2:

So...raw gold is just under $1850 an ounce. So .25 oz is one quarter of that. NOW...if the nugget has a lot of character to it you should get more. Theoretically. And remember natural gold is not 100% pure, so it may assay for less.

Nice find, Everett. If your nugget weighs .25 ounces that would be just under 8 grams. Depending on the quality of the gold, I would suspect the value to be from $50 to $55 per gram.

All depends on what it looks like and where it came from.

If I catch a fish & let it go how much is that worth ? A lot it is all about the thrill of the hunt to find what you are looking for that makes worth a lot more .

change your scale to grams ,a gram is 50 to 55 dollars,as mentioned above, cool nugget .i would save it they are hard to find.brad

Sorry, I meant $150, but somehow the zero didn't type

I figured it $59 gram x 2.49 grams. But as soon as I reread my correction, he's saying thats a quarter of an ounce!? That's a horse of a different color! Quarter ounce would closer to $800-900.

The OP also mentioned the dimensions, one inch by a half inch. This also verified quarter ounce.
This is a beautiful piece, especially considering it's from NC. Very nice piece. Exceptional. Enjoy your success!

Just a hare over 7-grams, so a $335.00 nugget. Very nice find!:occasion14:

you used the wrong unit of measurement on your scale . You used the oz unit instead of the ozt for the troy weight of the nugget! But it still is one really nice find and in your own yard to boot !:coffee2:

Those larger nuggets are not so easy to come by.
I’d guess you will find gold buyers willing to pay you $335 - $420 for that nugget.
Somewhere in that price range. Less at a pawn shop. Personally I’d be sticking with the upper end of that price range.

It doesn’t sound like you were looking for gold...any details on how it ended up in your pocket? I.e. the back story.

Yes very nice nugget! I too am curious on the back story. Were you using a dedicated gold detector? Were you looking for placer gold specifically? It really is an incredible nugget to come across especially if you were coin or relic hunting. I would consider really going over that area very slowly with a gold machine and try to get its brothers and sisters. Chances are there's going to be more where that came from...and most is going to be much smaller than that. Too small for most coin/ relic detectors..congratulations!
