I Find The Strangest Things In My Yard... This one I can't figure out...

Found this today and have no idea what it is. It looks like it could be some sort of door lock, machine part, hinge... no clue.

I'll leave it to the experts. ; ) Thanks for looking.

Wow - I'd soak that thing in cider vinegar for 2 or 3 weeks, blast it with a garden hose and re-post the results.

Looks like it may be part of an old rollerskate, You know the metal ones we used in the 60's, they fit over our shoes..

Okay, I laughed out loud when I read your comment.. really, I did. But I have to say, considering the other things I've found in my yard, there are very few finds that I throw away. Long story... several Civil War finds... blah.. blah... blah... try to make sure I keep things that could be important.

Ok... Cable runner... final answer :P

I like where you're going with this. I just need to soak it. I'm sure it's nothing major... just curious.

That my friend is a bench wood plane here is a pic for comparisonwood-planes.webpimages.webp what gave it away was the opening for the blade/chipper/frog.

Back of the boat - part of me says you hit it, because of the slot in the last pic. Sure looks like an opening for a blade on a hand plane! However, in pics 1, 2, 3, 5 & 6, - after Loco said clamp-on skate (roller OR ice) That is ALL I can see! I couldn't see a blamed THING until Loco and Back-of-the-Boat made their superb observations. DC Metal, you darned well BETTER either soak that sucker, or chip the rust away, because I wanna know which it is. For the record, I'm siding with Loco. Now come on . . . prove somebody wrong!!

PS - I think the "blade slot" is an adjustment slot for making the clamps wider or narrower.

I hope the OP soaks it for a confirmation on our guesses.Because I could see it being either or neither:laughing7:.Its pretty rough and half the fun of whatsits is the final outcome and going WOW who would have thought it was that.

Alright! Alright! I'll soak it. Part of it is already broken and hanging on by a thread but I'll get my bottle of vinegar out and my wire brush. Stay tuned for the "exciting" results. ???

Thank you, as you can tell it doesn't take much to excite us, we are like adolescent boys with a new toy:hello2:LOL.

Agreed, agreed, agreed! hey, this could be an East Coast-West Coast competition! Anybody wanna start a pool before he soaks it??

If you get tired of waiting for the vinegar you could always hit it repeatedly with a hammer until all the rust comes off. Very effective method, does have a tendency to destroy the object. However, since the value is probably nil...I say bust out the hammer and start swinging.
