So, I'm not at the beach today, I'm hanging out at home with my son. I get the notion to go through my jar full of metal detected junk jewelry and broken watches. In the jar is the ring with the infinity symbol that I had found the first time I went detecting in the ocean under the stars back in June. It had been well before dawn, and I had been in chest-deep water, and the water had been glassy with just a slight undulation. The sand had been firm underfoot, and it had glowed a blue white color, reflecting light that was almost adequate to read by from the gibbous moon hanging high overhead. The light silhouetted my neoprene booties against the sand, and I could see as well as feel the ripples in the sand.
I had not picked up any signals since I had started, probably twenty minutes or more when something finally rang up. I scooped it, my first night-time recovery. It was a ring, if you can believe it. Checking it under the headlamp it looked like a girl's ring to me. I can't understand why I didn't bother to check it for a hallmark when I got home before throwing it into the junk jar. I must have been quite certain it was junk.
Now though, i am finally checking it, and I see "T&Co. 925."
So I go online, and check images and after a couple of unsuccessful searches, I get the search terms right and I find one very, very much like my ring. It's from the Tiffany website of all places. I'm not sure its the same ring exactly. The back of the band looks thicker than mine; it's inconclusive.
Then I find a blog called "Tastes like Glitter" by Bicky, 24. She had taken a couple of excellent photos of a ring she had bought directly from Tiffany that looked exactly like mine in every way, including the back of the band, but she did not photograph the hallmark. So, I emailed her with photos of my ring, most importantly, of the hallmark. She kindly replied within a couple of hours,
"Hi there I can confirm that mine is hallmarked exactly like this and I bought directly from the UK website. What a lucky find!"
Cha-ching. My second Tiffany ring. The first was a platinum wedding band. You can find more about that on my blog,Florida Gold Coast Treasure Hunting Update
