I guess that should have some supporting information, so here goes. Have alway had a string obsession with recovering old things since my childhood in upstate NY looking for Indian artifacts. My interest went off the charts when my parents took us to the Outer Banks for many years, the curiosity was always strong and sometimes the opportunities were incredibly close at hand but alas, as is with much of the interesting things in life there is never enough time or resources.
I retired 5 years ago a little early rather unexpectedly for health reasons, my retirement wasn’t planned that way, my retirement as it was planned was essentially entirely dismantled leaving the subject matter kinda moot. Well 7 years and by the grace of God and a loving woman we have managed to get back ahead after enduring of a series of difficult setbacks.
I would actually say that because of some of the unfortunate setbacks we were required to think differently and adapt, not easy when your 63, but by having to adapt we were at the fore front of remote working allowing My wife to rapidly move up to the appropriate position for her by entering the national market. Trust me when I say times are different, the younger generations for all the frustrations they may present have amazing tools and new internal cultures that are very much focused on competence and earnings, take nothing away from our young and brilliant people.
So now I am officially retired as of the 1 st of this year, the last 7 are a tribute to hard work and faith even when it didn’t look promising. And I suppose anyone taking enough time to read this far would guess is I can now turn my obsessive nature to recovering older artifacts primarily from the place they were lost, the water. I have dabbled in beach combing and gold panning and found the combination of warm shallow waters and long sandy beaches with those beautiful coral formations off shore make for an ideal blend of relaxing and activity with a purpose.
In particular I have an interest in studying the dynamics of the weather patterns that occurred in primarily the Caribbean seas when large numbers of ships were lost amongst the reefs in the outer Bahamas and how those storms could have affected the paths of the ships as they wandered into shallows ripping out the bottoms of the ships effectively distributing relics over a wider area. The satellite imagery apparently is so good that I am hearing of researchers being able to identify possible wreck sites.
Along with the drone technology that is so perfectly adaptable to search and recovery it seems the time couldn’t be more appropriate to put my hat in the ring. Officially I am starting the information gathering phase of a 2-3 year plan to get the infrastructure together while my wife continues in her career that incorporates a business plan that is made of all the things I wanted to do regarding searching for ancient relics hold my interest for 60 years.
Using sites like this one I intend to create a research and implement effort to draw on technology and time to find success. Both my wife and I enjoy the ocean and have spent quite a bit of time on the water so the opportunity to spend more time on the water with the advanced search equipment will really give this Retirement some urgency to fulfill.
thank you for taking the time to read
