I have not posted on here in quite a while, first of all Happy New Year everyone! :occasion18:
I will get straight to my story,my Dad and I went back out where a running Civil War battle took place where last summer I dug a cannon ball that had exploded in the ground and I glued it back together and posted it on here. I had no idea that I would top that today by digging a whole one, it was about 18 inches deep and of course I didn't have the camera with me to take pics of it in the ground :BangHead:. I also dug two cannon ball fragments, one case shot, and a fired Minnie ball. I can't wait to get back over there! :headbang:
Stay Tuned More To Come!
Happy Hunting

wow that's sweet. hope it don't go BOOM

Very cool! My old neighbor used to have one just like that. He found it while putting a garden in.

Thanks for looking, anybody know who can disarm these with out destroying it or them selves?

Now that is a great relic. Don't try disarming it yourself unless you have a remote set up. Hopefully someone will know who can disarm it.

I know folks who disarm them and have helped myself over the years - just not in your area and I don't advise mailing it he he. PLEASE DO NOT try it yourself even if someone gives you the instructions - boremans especially found on land can be tricky. Also, dont beleive the "just leave it, everything is fine" also. I would start by contacting the closest relic dealer in your area as they will advise you on a person who can help and won't turn you in either.

Killer dangerous prize you got there. Hope to find one myself sometime.

EXCELLENT!!!! That is an awesome find. :hello2:
Congrats to you,
MM

How do I find him on here?

Just search his name up at the top and you should find him. Be careful with that thing . I soaked mine in water for several weeks before I messed with it . I also did electrolysis which worked wonders. Mine had a huge rust cacoon on it.

Hey bud - if it came out of any wet ground in eastern NC - I hope you ran it in electroysis for a good while. (sorry I grew up and lived in NC digging since I was a boy until recently moving to VA) Most folks don't realize wha the salt content will do to a shell 10 years down the road. These were also in a cacoon and cooked for 2 years until they were just right.

No Dan the ball was found in Germany . I had to leave it in the bath for three days before the cacoon would chip away. Man, you have an impressive collection! :notworthy: The ball was an older one with a wooden plug.

Very nice...sorry not trying to intrude, just wanted to help. I have seen folks who dig shells in coastal areas very depressed after theirs fall apart years after they think the preserve it. Thanks - been fortunate with artillery over the years, though not as fortunate as some people I know. That pic is from 2004 I believe after a very good summer spot.

Hey Peanut. I have a friend in Vicksburg, Ms that I can contact who has had a couple of shells disarmed. I can contact him and get the info for the guy he used. I'm fairly sure the fellow was in Vicksburg. Just let me know. Be careful with that ball of boom. Those things scare me. You should have seen us last year riding around in a Geo Metro with a Parrot shell between my legs for about an hour until I realized it was live and oozing. Yeah I wasn't happy with my friend for not informing me of this. I would have taken my Jeep instead of riding with him. :dontknow: :angry5:

As stunning as that is, and as much as I'd love to dig one....makes me nervous!! :D That is an awesome find! Be careful!! :o

Nana :)
