What the heck is this??
I dug up a copper plate and discovered eight ghostly looking images staring back at me!
Anybody know anything about this? How old is this? Is this some kind of photographic process? photoplate.webp

You dug this?
cant imagine how a tin or copper plate could retain an image as old as this
The step down around the edges / frame may offer a clue
Because of the step around the edges might indicate a plate
IMO

Yes, I dug it at a site where an old school used to be located. It's not there anymore.
I wonder if these were students or teachers who were associated with the school.
I'm amazed that the image is still visible, although barely.

Thanks! Looks good.
Not sure how old other than turn of the century?
Your enhancement of the photo is awesome.

Your photo appears to date sometime in the latter half of the 19th century, it was most popular after the 1850's. By the 1920's the photogravure process was about done with and already replaced with the newer and faster processing of silver gelatin prints.

Cool Photo But other then looks like possibly 1960's to me because of the Color.
copper plate though Suggests much older.

no one sticks out as familiar

I love the way you enhanced the picture.
They may have even belonged to a local college - Mississippi College. They look old enough to be college students. Could even be a picture of one of their clubs for the yearbook, etc.
