Milk can lid that looks like a metal hat?

Someone marked this as solved for me, but I still have some question about it, so I am marking it unsolved for now. I will mark it solved with in two days if I don't get any response. This is the original post: "I found this more than 2 feet under in the middle of the woods, didn't find anything else near it. At first I thought part of a head light, but the inside seems too deep and too cone shaped.

It has the one hole in it, and some ridges around the frame".

Then I added a not later in the post that I have seen photos of these, but I can't find any with the hat like shape. I am just asking for a little more help!
Thank You!

Cindy

I don't think it is a lid to a milk can. Where is the cross handle to get the lid off?

It looks more like an ash tray that you might have found in the lobby of a movie theater.

I can't find any photos of one with a 4 inch depression, it looks like a hat, I see the one hole and that all looks good, but at this point I can't visualize it.

I know!!!!!
I dont know where you are from, but, I live around the west Texas oil patch......... in the old days, they drilled holes and set detectors around to so siesmology!
they put that little tin cap over the hole to force the explosion down, to echo off formations........ wish I had kept one for show and tell. but, your pics are very good at that.......... today, they thump the ground with a huge truck, without the dynamite!

Thank you! I didn't think it was from a milk can, but with the little hole in it and it being round and not having a better answer, it was just having to do for me!
I am in Franklin County Texas (East Texas), As far as "wish I had kept one for show and tell" I will sell you mine! LOL Do you know how old it might be? Just curious. Thanks again! Cindy
