So, this morning had all kind of computer issues at work and just simply had to walk away..so, I went to get the mail and stopped by an old municipal airport that is now home to a convention center surrounded by baseball fields (I was in close proximity to the field and center). Dug two cans rather quickly and then got a silver ping and dug. And dug...and dug...and dug. It seemed deep and it seemed to have legs and was moving. it was driving me crazy - was running out of time on my 30 minute break and was about to walk away and finally saw this thing at the bottom of the hole. Numbers are some combo of 6's, 9's, and maybe a 1 and one faded number might be an 8. Anyway, whatever...its heavy - must be lead. lead 002.JPGlead 003.JPG

don't have a clue what it is but MD acted really weird with it...will have to remember in case it happens again

I can't tell exactly how big the thing is... however, I have found bars that look sort of like that about 1" x 1" and 8" long, that were solid lead. They were "bulk" lead. You could buy these small bars and melt them to cast whatever you wanted. They were also used to seal seems in custom cars, in the old days. That is where the term "lead sled" came from... perhaps I have digressed...

Here is picture of them...

Looks like a nice find to me! How does it check on the VDI when out of the ground?

Don't have VDI or really know what that is (im a newb pretty much). Its 1/2" width x 1/2" thick x 2" long. Could be the lead thing you are talking about to make repairs on airplanes when it used to be airport?

If you have a soldering iron, it should melt pretty easily. If it does, probably lead.
