I don't have a clue where it came from

I was looking for a commemorative coin that I
manufactured back in 1991. In my wife's jewelery
box I found a three cent piece. Neither she nor I
have ever seen it before, but I'll keep it. The coin
gods work in mysterious ways, eh?

That's a nice addition to your collection (and my education) from 'left field'!
I have looked up the silver trimes before, but that's the first nickel 3-cent piece I've seen found by any means.

Good thing about the memory going is that you can put it back in the jewelry box and find it again, and again, and again. . . Hide your own Easter eggs too.

After finding it did you swing the detector over the jewelery box to make sure there were no other signals in the box

That is too weird isn't it I had a very similar situation. While living alone...one day I found a foreign coin on the floor in front of my dresser. Scary.
