I couldn't take it anymore!

I haven't been detecting much at all this summer with the heat we've had here in NC, but today started out in the low 70's so I had to get out. It warmed up into the low 90's and I must say with the sun beating down on me I am now officially a Redneck. :tongue3:
Long story short, a lady saw one of my relic shadowboxes at her sisters house and gave me permission to detect her property.
They weren't sure of the actual date it was built, but they said it has "1896" on one of the chimneys. This place has the old separate kitchen, smokehouse, and many other outbuildings.
As you can see, there was plenty of iron to be cleaned up. This bucket (about 60 lbs) is full of plow tips, horseshoes, horse tack, axe heads, etc.

My finds weren't too fantastic yet, but I was able to manage one coin into the late 1800's. :icon_thumleft:
Today's take:

*1897 IH
*Wheats - 1912, 1925, 1937
*1944 war nickel
*Toe tap
*"Woodman of the World" aluminum token. It says "Coin test" on the back. ??? :dontknow:
*14k gold filled ring
*Asst's other pcs.

Thanks for looking,
MM

That looked like a good hunt to me, nice assortment of gold, coin and relics. I loved the pictures of the site and I hope you hit it again.

"Coin Test" refers to a WOW practice in which members would confirm their identity to one another by displaying these membership tokens, in much the same way that members of military units use "challenge coins" today.

Re: I couldn't take it anymore!

Great finds, I know what ya mean about the heat but its more the drought here if your not in sand, its just to hard to dig

Re: I couldn't take it anymore!

awesome job MM! Keep us updated on what comes out of that house! :)

Re: I couldn't take it anymore!

Nice site and finds! Talk about cleaning out the junk to get the goodies, LOL. HH, Mike

Re: I couldn't take it anymore!

Dug,

Keep hitting that house hard with your NC maniac-like tude. :laughing9: You are bound to strike the deep and older silver there. I think you have enough junk iron there to build a house for your Colonial doll. :laughing9: I know you have the mechanical skills to make it happen. :hello2:

We are heading out the door in less than an hour! :headbang:

Looks like Moe tried to stick that fork in Curly's head!

Ha,ha,ha. I thought that fork was used on my meatloaf, but later learned it, along with the flattened spoon, was part of a wind chime. :tongue3: ;D

Thanks for the info PBK. :icon_thumleft:
I had no idea what the WOW was and thought this "coin test" token was used for some skill test where they would try to hit it by throwing a knife or hatchet at it. ;D Boy, do I feel dumb now.

Sir Kyle

Thanks buddy. I've decide to recycle all my iron and make a 59' Caddy. I figure I'll need another 100 buckets full. :laughing9:
The owner told me his son found a "large penny" years ago out in their plowed field by eyeball, and an IH too.
Heck I can't even find an LC with a detector! :'(
Good luck today you coppa vaccum. :icon_thumleft:

THANKS FOR THE GREAT REPLIES EVERYONE. Looking forward to getting out more soon.

Re: I couldn't take it anymore!

Great finds Doug, could the 1897 be an error coin. The 9 of 97 sure looks funny, almost like an 8. Bryan in Goldsboro

Re: I couldn't take it anymore!

Looks like a nice place, Doug. I wondered when I was going to see some more of your posts. Glad you got out.

Re: I couldn't take it anymore!

Nice digs, Doug. Looks like you can join the ranks of the "Iron Brigade" :laughing7: Looks like a nice old property to hunt. Hope you can squeeze out some more coinage ::)
