I've been using my new Deus HF search coil and I've been amazed at how well it works, then today I switched back to the LF search coil and it worked great also. I'm not keeping both, so the testing continues.

It's starting to get hot here so I look for sites that have trees so I can stay out of the direct sunlight. The first site that I went to produced silver on my previous hunt, but not today. Nothing but a bunch of clad and another British coin, my 3rd for the year.

My second site looked promising and I thought I was on to something really good because right out the gate I found 1926 Mercury dime. I worked the site for nearly 2 hours finding a wheat penny here and there to keep me motivated. Finally I got a sweet high audio tone and popped a 1940 Mercury dime.

It was the 3rd time that a car with deep tinted window slowly drove by looking me over, so I figured it was time to get the hell out there, before something happens. I wasn't in a good part of town.

Heck of a good haul! I have friends from South Africa, and their coins have always drawn my attention. Looks like you were having a great day until the locals happened by!

Very nice coin hunt, congratulations! :occasion14:

You were probably wise leaving. Good stuff. I like Mercs a lot.Regarding the coil, if possible I'd keep both. You never know when one may be left uncharged or *gasp* break. Or something like that. Anyway, I prefer the HF coil. I was out late yesterday at what Vferrari calls the "amusement park" due to the variety of targets using the Deus and the HF coil. It's my big CW site. Last weekend we did what I thought would be the last dig there for this year. I had left work and was bringing the owner a 3 gallon container of gourmet ice cream. Some things are VERY important. Like ice cream. So after the chit chat I went out to the field which surprisingly hadn't been planted.

Last weekend I had a group dig. The guys were on the "good" end of the field, I was looking for new hot spots last weekend 1/4 mile away on the unknown end of the field. Well, I went right behind where they were last weekend with the Deus and the HF coil but set at a lowly 28 khz. The dig holes (filled) and footprints were evident. I went right between said holes and footprints and snagged a LOT of CW relics! I was surprised they missed so much. We were there almost 6 hours. Hugh was using the Equinox 800, the others had a Whites V3i (did I get the numbers right?) and the other a Minelab CTX 3030. Also, an AT Pro and Minelab Sovereign were there the week before. I seriously wiped some noses in 45 minutes of digging!

Don't get rid of the HF coil.

Nice finds... sometimes it'll be like that, that a spot looks promising and only one or two good finds come out, yet, come back next year and the same just may happen with even older coins...

the LF coil does suck the ground pretty good but the HF seems to find deeper and smaller stuff that I seemed to have missed with the LF. Then you look at how much better the HF coil does on small gold, like small chains than the LF. My wife is using my LF coil, oh excuse me, her LF coil and I am very happy with my HF coil.

You are absolutely correct, the HF coil goes deeper and gets smaller stuff. It also likes big Confederate belt buckles too!

I can't comment on the XP because i have never been around one. But, the coins are great and you may have been pretty wise to move on after the car kept coming by. I detect some pretty shady areas as well.

Heh, heh. I didn't do so bad...lol.

You did squat.:laughing7: I have to take pics. Can't believe what was missed, seriously. Was walking right over everyone's footprints and dig holes.

Ok, so I took one pic. Three minies, 1 Sharps with dimple base, 1 .69 round ball, I also got one last weekend, three brass buckles, 1 larger iron roller buckle, two eagle buttons, 1 round "ball" style button, three tent or other brass grommets, big piece of scrap brass, 8 modern bullets, two pieces old redware pieces, cartridge box finial, small buck load, silver pull tab thingie, knapsack piece. In about 1 hour going in a circle 75' around.

Gotta leave stuff behind for the primary permission holder. It's only polite. :cat:

BTW - Nice finds, tabman. Gotta know when to fold 'em... Glad you are enjoying the new HF.

I get depressed if I have to go back to the LF coil. Yeah, but leaving this much stuff behind don't make no sense! :tongue3: At least I didn't get a gold coin.

Man you are having a nice year. What is silver coin count? I'm loving the South African coin too.

Hey Smokey,
Sounds like everything is good with the HF. Since I Don't have a dog in the HF hunt I just the other night watched a YouTube video on the HF verses the HF and the dealer said that the HF did a little better in mineralized soil an separated some better. But other than that there wasn't a ton of difference. You probably could comment better than I to Tasman about doing away with one or the other. Just a side note, my next toy is the XP with both coils even though my soil here in the this area in in the mild mineralization range.
