I can officially say that on December 15th 2014 12:03 AM EST I found a 1984 DDO cent.

Sorry about no pictures, I feel like I have to report this to you guys as soon as possible. I was finishing up Box #47 of pennies and nickels for this year, and on my 5th to last penny roll, it happened. It's so ironic, I was talking to my self ( out loud, I admit ) that I'm about due for a 1984 DDO. Not kidding, I was saying that on this roll. I flipped over the next cent as I said that, and there it was. Lo and behold, a 1984 DDO cent in about MS62, maybe even MS-63. I found a 1983 DDR cent several years back in UNC condition as well, and I was just thinking about it when I was talking out loud, lol.


So....the main question.
It doesn't have any corrosion, damage, etc., and nor does the 1983 DDR...

Should I send it off to PCGS?

I know, I know. I need to provide you guys a picture so you can get a good idea on it. As long as I remember, I'll try my best to get a shot of it with my crappy camera. I might just use my phone.


By the way, should I put it in a 2x2 holder, or put it in a PVC coin flip?

Congrats on those awesome finds! Doubles dies are tough & it's definitely surreal when you find one. I have found a '72 (the real one) and a '95. Prob not worth sending it in unless it really is high end uncirc due to the fees. Awesome find, nonetheless! Now show us the porn.

Congratulations. Unfortunately, it will only garner an AU grade. The hit to the copper plating in the field greatly detracts from the eye appeal and the rim dings/scuffs are too much wear to break through the MS grades.

Awesome find! I've been hunting cents with increased zeal this year and probably will continue that trend into next year as halves are getting hard for me to order. Your coin will make me hunt cents even harder, so thanks a lot!
In regards to grading, I personally am going to accumulate as many notable coins as possible and then have them all graded en masse many years from now. 2x2's will do the job until then.

Picture quality probably makes it look like that. It has a gold luster tone to it which is interesting

Indeed, there is plenty of luster, but when it comes to grading, it is a measure of wear or lack there of. Despite the luster, a TPG cannot ignore the obvious wear and deficiencies. Don't let it diminish the great find that it is.

I honestly do not see it can someone please explain where the double die is. I know what it's supposed to look like but I just can't see it.

Look at his lower ear. You can see a second earlobe lower down (it was stamped twice).

Yes it's another outline of the ear. It is not there however because it was stamped twice. The dies are pressed into the working hub, transferring the image to the die. This is done several times. If there is an accidental shift in alignment then the secondary image is applied.
