Found my second ever gun in the river Saturday. Looks pretty darn old to me. I was diving and found it a few inches down in a gravel bar, when I felt the trigger guard I thought I had found another pistol, but then it just kept going! Unfortunately the guard broke in the process. Also found a few phones (two work and will attempt to return to owner) and 1.5 knifes. I say 1.5 because I was kinda excited to find the butterfly knife, only to discover it was a practice knife, duller than a butter knife. The "brass knuckles knife" is pretty interesting too. May make a good dive knife.

Also found a few rod and reels, when I was diving there was a ton of fishing line in the rapid and I was kinda pissed because of the danger to me and wildlife, when I found the rods I realized where it had all come from. I left them for my buddy who owns the property at the rapids there.

Here are some close up pics of the shotgun, can anyone identify it? Also any suggestions for preserving it?

Looks like a single shot shotgun, 12 gauge. Iver Johnson, Harrington and Richardson and other companies made lots of them starting early in the last century and continuing to the present. They are a very practical and plain utility gun often kept on farms or country estates.

Probably just a matter of time before you find a nice ring in with the mix of stuff that you’re already finding. Good luck!
