My guess is a ball from a one-way valve of some kind. Video gives a look from all angles.

It might be an old hand made marble.
The antique China marbles are made out of porcelain and usually have symetric patterns all the way around, like two or three parallel lines, or intersecting parallel lines.
Marbles with only two or three parallel lines usually have a flower, leaf, or pinwheel type pattern painted on the poles of the marble, I can't really tell if yours has anything on the poles. If it's one of these, it dates in the mid 1800s.
Just a thought.

Actually, looking at the video again, I can see a ring of flowers on one pole.
Cool find! :)

I thought of that too but porcelain is too fragile to stand the impact.

No designs on the poles... and this is slightly bigger than a ping pong ball smaller then a golf ball... I have never seen a marble that big.

It makes sense to have been used in a valve, but also could have been used in a ball mill.

Whats a ball mill?

Just a throw in here but could it be a witches ball? Those antique ceramic balls used for darning? They would be about that size.

No it does not float... its of an appropriate weight for porcelain of that size... so it sinks like a rock!
