hi all. i am still in a bit of "shock" me and the wife wanted to go do a bit of detecting before it got dark, as it is going to rain tomorrow. so off we went. we went to a place we have been working in the wood's for awhile now. it has been giving up some nice indians, the last one was an "1859" in very good shape, and a couple of others too. well we began detecting and within a few minuts we dug what looks to be a metal plate to a kids holster i thought cool as i collect old toy's so thats a keeper in my book. now here is where it gets good, still detecting i noticed a couple of very large tree's they were out back from an old house but back into the woods so, i started detecting under one of the tree's got a copper signal and dug a weatie. so i kept working under the tree's then i went to the next tree and as soon as i got under it i got a strong silver signal i dug down about 6" and i picked up what i thought to be some weld dropings so i brushed off the dirt and "lord and behold" it was the bust of "president lincoln" looking up at me. needless to say i got so exsited my hands started shaking. i have to say that was the best hour of metal detecting i have ever had. maybe i should take the wife with me more often as my good luck lady lol. i wonder if this peice is of any historical importance. if anyone knows anything about it i would i appreciate any info or idea's. thanks everyone. "god bless" ben.
