I am so tempted to tell the TS manager he's screwing up.

Over the past two weeks I've been quite lucky picking up listed artists at my local thrift store. It feels like I am being spoiled and want to tell the manager that instead of being "so anal" acid testing the gold jewelry in public view at the counter during business hours he should monitor the staff in the back sorting area who know nothing about art.

Todays find.

Edward Sokol, Cat. #135 "Window Study" Acrylic on canvas 15" x 30"

Asking prices for his original paintings I've seen range between $2000-6000

This is a similar painting at a nearby gallery

I will post the other pieces of artwork from the past two weeks when I get a chance.

Congratulations on the great find.

Why mess up good thing. I know a guy who grips that he never finds gold and silver, yet he is the first one to help teach them what to look for.

I would never tell him but watching him always testing for gold, silver and diamonds makes me not even look at the jewelry. Worse enough having to compete with other customers but the house is fixing the odds in their favor. Saying something would just be vengeful.

Congrats on your painting!

Great finds! I wouldn't say anything to the manager, I would just laugh and keep laughing all the way to the bank!

Awesome piece, incredible buy. Telling them you're making a small fortune on the artwork that comes in their back door that they don't have the time or desire to research is about the very last thing I would ever do in this world. Hahah. And as far as acid testing and diamond testing? Don't let that stop you from monitoring the shiny stuff. The best testers still miss stuff, and do you think they know the first thing about a nice designer piece of jewelry? I've bought many unmarked and very unassuming-looking gold pieces over the years that they wouldn't even consider testing.

Cliff's notes: Don't write anything off at a thrift store, and don't spoil a steady paycheck.

Best pieces of gold I have come across were high grade and looked so fake, folks assumed they were costume. One 18k bangle was $1400 worth of gold. So don't let him stop you from checking ALL of the deals in that store!
