Fiend, hit up the Monster job site and the Chicago Jobs site, you'll get calls.

As far as Friday goes, anytime you want to come out and mine the gold fields with me let me know.

CAD (Computer Aided Drafting) I do structural drafting for structural engineers. They design the buildings, I draw it for them. Basically I draw blueprints.

Lowbatts, That would be cool!!!

bummer about the slowdown but sounds like a cool job

Its an awesome job, but I don't know how long until I get the axe. Thank god I got my night job to fall back on.

TF,

that sucks big time.

Been there and done that...................

Hang in there.............

Perhaps it is not true that life sucks and then
you die. :-\

Just a suggestion; spend more time looking for a job,
less with the detector. ::)

What is the night job??
Benefits?

have a good un......

I am a rent-a-cop by night with no benefits. :(

They cut your hours again?? Man. Sorry to hear that. If my hours were ever cut, I'd have nothing to fall back on, so at least you have that. I'd check out some other opportunities in the same field you're in now. You never know when they might downsize and move a bunch of people out of there. That's how the economy is right now.

Good luck, man.

And happy Fridays! lol

Hey TF, do you work with Pro-E or Autocad? I would think if you could wrap your head around either you can get yourself a modeling/drafting job working in just about any mfg'ing industry that creates anything mechanical, i.e. Mechanical Engineering. But it doesn't take a BSME to get such a job if you have the talent. You just have to knock on the right doors. Anyhoo, hopefully that works out for you. There's always professional treasure hunting if all else fails :)

I walked into my job one morning a few years ago and got permanently laid off. My job went to China.
That was after 13 years with the company.

Now I'm a home inspector and also working in a machine shop with no bennies. Times are tough bud.

All this talk about fair trade is BS. I don't think you can call it fair trade when your sending all of the jobs
and American technology overseas.

Manufacturing is just about a thing of the past, IT, engineering, customer service, etc are all going that way.
What's next?

The good thing about your drafting skills is you may be able to get a nice telecommuting job.

Hang in there bud!
Mike

Hey Fiend, just go to careerbuilder dot com and check it out. Monster and Chicago job search should do the same.
You will either have much more time to go detecting or NO time to go detecting. It all depends on how ambitous you are, not what anyone who thinks the sky is falling says on TV about how terrible it is "out there" right now. You've got a good background, you can certainly get through an interview process so hey, come out and play or go back to work.

I'm still playing. The night job just keeps me in the habit of working.

Thanks guys, but for now I'm just gonna stay put. Actually it will be nice to have Fridays off.

I'm new to this forum and am learning to use my Etrac. Be happy to hunt with you. I live on the Northside around the Junction of 90/94.

Olderactor,

I live near you. Actually, I used to live at Cicero between Foster and Elston...Jeff Park. I lived there for almost fifteen years. I also hunted the parks in that area extensively. I know a few really good spots, I'm not going to assume you don't know those, but if not, maybe we can collaborate one of these days. Always good to buddy up. Welcome to the forum, BTW...you'll meet a lot of good people, at least on this forum.

Joe

Wow very cool.
I am also a CAD operator, been doing it for about 12 years. Slowly working my way up here at my company.
Most of my work is on the environmental side and I am now transitioning into 3D modeling and GIS for environmental projects. Very cool stuff
