I like to hunt with someone else,BUT, when I get permission to hunt someones property I feel funny bringing someone else along. I guess when you ask permission you should ask if you and your friend or friends can come also.
Do you find people are more willing to give permission to hunt if you are alone more so than if there are more than one?

Happy hunting

FWIW - Personally, I think it is better to ask when you are alone (some people get edgy with more then one stranger knocking on the door). After I get permission - I ask if they would mind if I brought a friend along.

I think after you have detected there a time or two, and the property owner warms up to you, THEN you may present the question.
Good luck,

Oddly enough the last 2 times I have asked for permission the landowner stated "so long as it is just you". Think many have been exposed to giving hunters permission and they bring Dad, then Dad brings Uncle, then Uncle brings Nephew, then signs are posted "NO HUNTING. I did go back and ask to bring one person for just one trip and they said "no problem" the the other hunter couldn't make it. I always ask if I have buddies along. I personally would be miffed if one person asked me and a few days later I saw 3 people in my field.

I like to detect by my self. I have found if you take along others, they feel you should involve them all the time in all your hunts. I set up a club hunt for a lost gold ring several months back, I had people wanting to go with out other club members, it was for the whole club and new members. I said I will not ever do it again, people can be greedy, this is why I only take my dog along or my son.

I hunt with three other guys and we are a great team. When I ask for permission I always mention to the landowner that I hunt with three others and ask if it is ok if they come along. I assure them we are very professional. I don't get turned down too often as I do a lot of research before I approach the landowner. We hunt civil war relics which is harder to get permission than anything else I know of. We have several sites that the owner allows no one else to hunt. Sadly we have trespassers and illegal hunters in our area that make it harder to get permission.

It's been my experience that my main partner and I are both partially blind, I;ve lost 35% in my left and Phil is totally blind in his right and almost gone in his left, so we look a lot of yards and we probably get turned down about 15-20% of the time. we spend a lot of time researching the sights and spend a great deal of time explaining to the landowner what might be just under his feet..............Seems to work for us. Then after looking at us it could be pity
LOL
