Hunting w/ 'Bullseye'
I find myself stranded in South China without my metal detector, but I did bring my White's Bullseye, a small hand-held detector designed for pinpointing targets after you've started to dig. I decided to see if I could use the Bullseye as a primary detector, even though you have to go slow and crawl on the ground to use it. I found that the Bullseye is very sensitive and found these items on a university campus in about 1/2 hour:
Two nails, a cotter pin, a tee bolt, a tiny piece of foil, a key, two 'jiao', and two '5 jiao' pieces all current issue and worth less than 20 cents all together.
The point is, when you're deep in treasure-hunting withdrawal symptoms, you can make do with a Bullseye. All items were within one inch of the surface and I'm sure that's about the limit for the device, but it's better than nothing!
