Keith drove the short distance up here from Delaware to hunt a couple of old parks today. The first park used to be an old Salvation Army summer camp. It's been hunted to death, but there is a little section of woods leading down to a creek that I thought might still produce. Keith found a few good items in there, which I believe he'll post later. Unexpectedly, I came up with an old large cent about 8 inches deep. It's got a lot of meat on it, but it's encrusted with dirt. I've got it soaking in olive oil to hopefully loosen up some of that dirt. I'll show a picture of it later.
I also found a little detective's badge from New York Police Dept. Don't ask me how it got down here.
We next drove to a park adjacent to a golf course that I had first hunted about 6 years ago. It hadn't been hit hard too hard in the past and I had discovered an old Boy Scout camp at the top of a hill in the back of the area. Anyway, we didn't get up to the camp area today, but hunted mostly on the terraced hills on either side of the park. Keith found a few wheat pennies, as did I. I also found a 1936 Buffalo nickel. But when we were almost done, I got a real nice big silver signal up on a terrace near a picnic pavillion. Three inches in the ground was an nearly white 1929 Standing Liberty Quarter. I called Keith over to look at it and he was amazed. We had been talking about SL Quarters when we were walking into the place. I had a feeling there was at least one more piece of silver in that park.
Here's the Stander:
And the Buffalo:
So, we both had a pretty good time and I'm sure we will hit these spots again.
