A woman wants me to look for her wedding ring she lost in a feedlot (horses), I tried it for about half an hour with my Quattro. There is so much junk, can't move even a couple inches without getting a reading. I haven't used the Quattro much, so any helpwould be much appreciated. Thanks.

You can decriminate iron items or you can remove every target and if it is really there you will find it.

Expect to dig a lot of iron and other "trash" items. A womans ring will come in at around low nickle - tab range, as a rule, which means lower discrimination. If you have a notching detector (dunno about the Quattro) then you can mitigate some of that worry.

But the best way is to KNOW what the sort of target you are looking for looks like to your DETECTOR. Then you can know what doesnt matter.

Dahut has it right. Expect to check the reading of each target to see where it falls on the meter. Be sure you are getting the pull tab reading as this is where the ring will probably be.

I've done this thing before many times. Ask her how she knows for sure it is in the feed lot. I've had women tell me they lost it "right here" only to learn later she forgot she took it off and set it in her purse or left it home that day. You can spend days and many hours looking for it for her to do a good deed. Good luck to you and I hope you can find it soon.

I was looking for a ring once for a gal and after she described it to me, I found a few similar ones in my collection. I scanned them and took note of them on my Garrettt GTAx 1000 (this was a while back!).

With that done, finding the ring in question was a poece of cake.

Last year I called a guy about a ring he had lost and to make a long story short, it WASNT in his feedlot like he thought - but outside of it where he had been handling hay. Backtrack every step!

Gosh, a feed lot? I bet that really stinks......... ;D

Good luck..... 8)
