Headed out to the inlet bridge area (aka; Grey Mater City) on tues 14 May 2013, and the place certainly lived up to its name! Found 38 pieces of "grey matter" all different sizes. I was trying out a little mod i did to my 720i sccop with some plastic mesh I bought from a local craft store to add to a sifter I was making. I was getting frustrated in a couple areas this past month with small pieces falling through the holes and was getting sick of chasing them around. The mesh really helped. I was able to recover some much smaller pieces (lead) than I have in the past. Hoping it helps in the lake I've been hunting with all the small shotgun shell primers that I keep chasing around!

Found the two rings about a 100 feet apart in ankle/knee deep water. Tide was still up so there wasn't much area to work in but it was a productive hunt for just an hour and a 1/2. The first ring apprears to be stainless but has no inside markings. The outside of the ring is marked in what appears to be Spanish (I speak and understand pretty well..) but is hard to see all of it as it is SO small and very faint from having been worn off. It looks to be the Lords Prayer based of some of the words I could pick out. Couldn't get a good picture of the lettering on this one as it only shows up in good light but it also washes out any photos. It was also had dried blood on it which makes me wonder if that was a contributing factor to its loss. The second ring seems much older, is marked 925 and tested as such. There is some other writing an numbers inside the ring but it is so pitted that even after some cleaning (electrolysis and a little soap and water) it still really can't be made out. It also has what appears to be a hatchet or axe hallmark in it but I'm not 100% on that.

The 720i scoop worked well here. The new mesh in the back and part of the mottom does let the sand through pretty good (just not as fast) and you have to deal with the pebbles but so far it's working well. Used it in OV yesterday (nothing good to report on THAT hunt...) where it worked well there also.

Looks like a productive day! Congrats on the rings!

From the land of the Bluenose.....
good assortment of finds and I'm sure some of the sinkers are still good. Stainless steel is the only way to go as far as a scoop is concerned. Thanks for posting and good luck on the next outings!
