I am going to be hunting an old railroad bunker (circa middle 1800's) with just the chimney left standing near the railroad tracks. Do you have any advice on what I should do in approaching something like this? I hear there was a lot of activity going on in this area and I'm pretty excited about it, but I've never hunted JUST a chimney before.
Thanks in advance.

slow and easy is the only thing i can think of, maybe see if you can see any old signs of a foundation!!!

Im with Chug I would look for any signs of an old foundation....if not just hunt the whole area, be patient.

Sweet! Detect the chimney itself also. Would be a great place to hide things behind a loose stone.

When hunting a chimney you must be very quiet and sneaky, you do not want it spotting you and running off. I'd recommend a 12 gauge with slugs, 22's just bounce off and make it mad, last thing you want is a brick to the head :laughing7: Sorry it is April Fools day

Man....wish I had a chimney to hunt. Some of the best finds I've seen are from areas like that. Get all the trash out first and slow it down and look for the goodies. Good Luck!

Get your head set on finding square nails for the first 500 targets. Bring a sifter of construction screen to find the ceramic buttons and marbles mixed in with the nails. Try to determine where the entrance(s) were and start between there and the tracks. Also look for an outhouse or trash pit. It might be worth while to clear a small area of iron and then see if there is any other signals from another direction. Patience.

Good luck and keep us posted.
