Hunting 1790's Farmhouse, 2 metal items found

The first item almost looks like a shotgun shell, but I'm not seeing any markings on it. I put the penny just for size comparison. The cylinder is 2 3/4" long and had been painted red. The second item is hammered metal, teardrop shaped and 1 3/4" long. Any clues on what these items are and a possible time frame? IMG_0439.webpIMG_0436.webpIMG_0435.webp

Item 1 is a lipstick tube.

Wow, I'm a woman and I think shotgun shell before lipstick. LOL Thanks for the info. I think the hole in the top of the cover is what threw me.
