Hello all,
I'm visiting my parents in my small hometown in central Texas, spent some time detecting today at some old places, one a house burned down before WW2 and neither has anything remaining but some bricks. I've hunted several similar places before, those old timers just didn't lose much change! First place I went was the burned down house and found the 1920 wheat and 1907 v nickel, only my second V nickel ever! Unfortunately, this black clay is like cement and all the patina comes off when the coins are pried from their resting place, sometimes buttons too. Second house found the war nickel and the military buttons, the 29mm General service button I identified as being produced from 1902-1918 based on the back which says (*SCOVILL MFG CO. * WATERBURY). The second military button is 20mm, has a lip with an eagle with plain shield, arrows in right talon and olive branch in left. The back is toast with a tiny bit of shank still visible. Would love if anyone could identify! Found several pieces of pocket knives, buckles, suspender clasp, harmonica reed pieces, pocket watch plate and other watch plates and much more!
Also, I found at least several dozen old ten and twelve gauge headstamps which I do not collect but from looking them up most are 1900-1935, let me know if anyone wants them. I'll send them your way.
Oh yeah, that war nickel is my first silver coin of the year! Was really hoping to have had more by now but better late than never!
