I hunted my own backyard and here is a small part of what I dug.

I found a surprising number of items most of which were very old.

These two digs were found deep in my own yard. I decided to use electrolysis first and then I put them into a rock tumbler with gravel, vinegar, and salt. After naturalizing the relics I dried them in the oven at 500 degrees and once cool coated them heavily with EverBright clearcoat spray sealer.

Can U ID the padlock?

That is a sweet lookin lock MB! Nice job on the cleanup. This is a finds thread but I'll ask anyway..............how do you like your new Nautilus? How deep were these items you dug, were you in all metal mode, relic? Not real familiar with this model. Sorry bout yer knee MB, take care of it so you can get back out there.............the iron awaits! ;D

Sorry, in my answer above I forgot to answer part of your question.

The lock wasn't too deep...maybe 10 inches or so. Best,

Re: Hunted Out Spot Finds + Nautilus & Cleaning Idea

Thanks BDOO; kenb; MIGHTY AP, and digman for your posts!

Here's another item I dug that same day. It's soaking in olive oil now with many other things.

Can you ID this button?

Thanks,

Badger

Badger, what size coil did you go with?

kenb

I used the standard 10 inch coil. I'd like to get the 15 inch for fields.

Good to hear you like the Nautilus. started using the DMCll in 1980's. got a DMCllB when they came out and finally a DMCllBa now. Best relic machine i have ever used in my 35 yrs of hunting. Little more weight than most machines. Made here in NC about 30 miles from me. All components are industrial grade and the detector will take the abuse of relic hunting. Just ask the guys in VA & NC. They like those hunted out sites you were talking about. HH.

Thanks much! I kinda like the glossy look. At first I wasn't too sure.

You being a CW hunter probably know that back in the old days they used to coat cannonballs with shellac. The new clearcoats are fast drying and some never yellow or crack.

Best to you,

Badger
