and found this ,its brass has a hinged top,a button on the side.Its 3in long & 3/4 thick counting the lid.has a circle type design on the bottom.

any ideas ??

Percussion caps were mostly kept in a leather pouch on the belt but when they were bought new from a merchant or handed out, many times they came in a round container similar to this. Not exactly sure that that is what this is. I would think that if it was a snuff can, being a snuff user, that there would not be a big hump in the center.
