Well I would like to start off by thanking romeo for playing host for 2 days of digging. The point of the 2 days was to hunt cannon ball beach in hopes to pull some big iron from the shores... We spent about 80% of our time at the beach and the only iron I pulled out is about 60 lbs of mortar frags (I'll get those cleaned up shortly for a pic). We were also cherry picking musketballs off the beach as most of them were sitting right on the top, found with naked eye.
My finds for both days included approximately 60 musketballs, 2 blow hole buttons (one of the biggest I've seen yet with gold gilt still on it), 1861 half cent, 1600's france Liard, 1746 Geo and what is left of a tudor rose button... I wish the pics were better but was the only camera I have at the moment...

Glad you could make it down. I'm looking forward to seeing a pic of those frags, especially the long neck frag. I've never seen one like it.

I don't know what it is with you and musket balls...you out shot me 3 to 1!

Congrats on the button...I knew there had to be a keeper on that beach...

Nice bunch of finds, I was trying to make out the lead button that is damaged, it looks like a thistle, if it is it could be a royal Scott's button, just wondering.Nt

I'll be heading your way in the near future, hope you're all warmed up now

Well nothing exceptional but when you dig that much you know you had the chance!

Copper is a Woods Hibernia. (Circa. 1722-24)

No kidding. :laughing7: A couple years back IH and I were digging signals like crazy off an old site and Romeo was 100' back detecting a little, but mostly playing with his blackberry. Of course when it was all said and done he had the military find and we just had a hand full of plain buttons. :-\

You nailed it right now IP...It's a 1723 Woods Hibernia...The coin is actually in excellent shape for being in the ground so long... I knew I saw different numbers than you romeo LOL

Yeah, even though the cannonball would've been a bonus...It was good just to get away from work for a couple of days. Besides I already have good size collection of cannonballs now...My goal is to get 50lbs of musketballs and I'm at 43lbs right now
