Coroner: Remains found in state park are hundreds of years old
The Associated Press
BELLEFONTE, Pa. - Authorities say the skeletal remains found recently at a state park in Centre County are hundreds of years old.
The remains were found three weeks ago at Bald Eagle State Park and sent to an anthropologist for examination.
County Coroner Scott Sayers said Wednesday the anthropologist concluded there were two separate sets of bones discovered very close together. He says tests suggests one set of remains may have been that of a prehistoric American Indian juvenile buried between 100 and 700 years ago.
The other set of bones were than of an adult, and evidence also suggests a prehistoric burial. Authorities say both sets of remains were likely reburied in the location they were found.
