Hummingbird carved in stone or nature playing tricks?

I found near the Trail of Tears on Durham Mountain in NW Arkansas buried all but one side, I only saw it because it was so clean and smooth. On the front side is a perfect (to me anyway) hummingbird with a vine or up-rooted flower and stock on its back. Then on the backside of the rock it looks like a little chunk broke off one side and there is a tiny hole right in the middle of the break that you can see how long it is because the rock is protruding a little, then above that is what looks like a wave, I am sure it's broke too.

Could the hummingbird have been carved or do you think it was naturally made?

Thank you, I really wanted to hear it was carved....I just may paint it now. Thanks again. I will drag out and post more strange rocks I have found over the years.

welcome to tnet
i find rock that looks like that here in east texas(not the bird)

....paint it? no no no....leave it as is. What you could do is put a silver band around the outside and make a pendant out of it.

Good eye!! The hummingbird is one of the effigies that natives worshiped . I'd keep it as is. No one knows that natives didnt make this piece. Google native Americans and hummingbirds. You will find that hummingbirds were huge to them.

I wouldnt paint it but it does look to be natural stone. Still a neat piece. I believe Indians did pick up these natural stones and probably thought they were cool just like we do.
