Is this just a dandy tombac or something else’s?

That's closer to a medium Tombac Button. Although some get to the size of a Dandy, no-one calls them that.

Thanks for the reply. Do you have a pic of a tombac larger than 1 1/4” diameter?

Loads at home, but I'm cleaning up & recording coins at Cru'Dad's house, so I will post mine later.

I meant to say Hessain button. I have found many of these in colonial USA sites, but not this large.

Now I'm unsure what you are asking? Are you hoping it a German Military Button?

I believe it is a Hessain button. I have found many on this site but smaller. This one is huge? Maybe it is something else? I’m asking for ID?

The ID is simple its a medium-to-large Tombac Button from about 1760-1830. No-one can tell if they were Hessain or not because they look identical & most were civilian, so odds are its civilian. I find tons of them & there were no German troop movements in my area. The largest I have is 34mm, but they probably go a little bigger.

Actually there is a good chance that it could be Hessain. I have found British Rev War stuff at this site in Savannah, GA. Hessains were used by the British in Savannah as well.

Fine. In which case you have all the answers, believe what you will.

Although it sounds like you have already decided in your mind what it is, Crusader's statement , " The ID is simple its a medium-to-large Tombac Button from about 1760-1830. No-one can tell if they were Hessain or not because they look identical & most were civilian, so odds are its civilian" is spot on.

I agree with both you and Crusader, that it is probably a civilian button. It is a lot larger than the other hundred or so buttons of the exact same style and material that I have found at this site. So I thought that it might be something special. But probably just a coat button. No big deal. I didn’t intend to come across adversarial. Thank you both for your input. This is exactly what makes this website so valuable.
