No idea how heavy it is as couldnt find a scale to weigh it, but its very heavy.

Its just over 5 feet long and just over 2 feet wide. Found down by the river and brought back with a tractor, told you it was heavy !

Some bits of iron around it, quite a bit of broken pottery and going back tomorrow as it took most of the day to retrieve it.

Its contoured so that whatever goes in it drains out the hole.

Reverse side is smooth slate, all even with no contour.

Wouldn't think embalmers table because the body would obstruct the drain hole. Drains in them are usually in one end. Some laboratory table tops are made of slate. Don't know for sure.

Was there once a dairy farm nearby? To me it appears to be the base to an old spring fed milk cooler, the sides being knocked off. The farmers would store milk cans in the water filled coolers until the milk buyer came around. Was there any indication of an enclosure built around it? Normally it would have been located inside of a small building called a spring house if that's what it is.

It is the base of a pump/watering trough. This one is roughly 6 feet x 2 feet.

Looks like a salting trough.

Well it looks like you are right. Asked around the local farmers and consensus is that its a Pig Salter.

Did a bit of googling and found one on Ebay for sale. Im much happier than it being an embalming table ! And for £800 quid, im really happy !
