Huge Mt Vernon Display Whiskey Bottle

In the basement of a house I an renting, in the corner, I found a huge (About 2+ feet high by 18" wide) bottle. The glass is old, with large bubbles in it. The label is painted on the bottle and says Mt Vernon whiskey bottled by bond, US government. I see no dates on the bottle whatsoever. I assume it is some sort of old display bottle, but no idea if it has any worth at all...any clues?

Don't know about the bottle specifically yet, but all of the eBay adverts for sale for Mount Vernon Whiskey are dated 1935 to 1951.

still looking...,

YES!

In some of those pictures in that link are the square bottles with the exact same lettring and color labels, except my bottle is much, much bigger.

Perhaps i should save it from the basement before its broken. Its bound to be smashed at some point where it currently sits collecting dust. Its in perfect condition but lacks a top as someone appears to have used it as a candle holder a long long time ago.

I've heard of large display bottles referred to as 'Texan 5ths', which I assume is trade lingo.
