Found this odd little dime circulating through my register at work recently (don't worry. I replaced it. ;) ). Not really sure if this is a mint defect or something that happened after it went into circulation. Was looking to get a second opinion.

The second picture was the closest I could get to it while still being in focus. The cud looked copper at first, but now I'm thinking it's some sort of metal exchange with a penny or something as it doesn't cover the entire blob. The silver visible on the edges matches the color of the rest of the dime.

Could be worth nothing, but still something interesting and out of the ordinary.

A CUD must include the rim and happens when the edge of the dies used to strike the coin break off and are no longer in place so when the coin is struck the metal takes the shape of the missing piece. The coin in your picture is definitely post mint damage meaning that it happened after it left the mint, it probably was soldered to a pin or other decoration but just a guess.

Okay, that makes sense. And sorry about the confusion, guess I just interpreted the definition I found wrong. Thank you! ^^

Like you said though...very odd and that makes it an interesting and unique find!Great find and Happy Hunting! :)
