Hi all,

It's been a while since I've been online. I've been out about three times in the past two months. The last two hunts were at a 1750's house. It was built for a doctor. We got permission to hunt the property. Very large field system freshly mowed made hunting a lot of fun. These finds are from the past to hunts combined.

The best find was a beautiful artois style Georgian shoe buckle from the 1750's-1770's. I think this one was from the doctors boot.

Also was found was a sweet little crotal bell. This one is very small and very crude. Note the small nub on it were perhaps it was broken from the mold. The iron ball is still in it.

The usual assortment of colonial flat buttons consisted of one tombac and other flats.

On the first hunt I unearthed a beautiful 2 cent piece 1864. It is in really nice condition with just about no wear at all. There is a bit of vertigree on it but not bad. On the second hunt, (yesterday) out popped another 2 cent piece not 50 feet from the first one. This one is also 1864 and in a very corroded state. How awesome to find two 2 cent pieces at the same site. These coins were only minted for 9 years between 1864 and 1873 (two additional years never circulated) I am quite pleased to have two of them in my collection.

One very nice 1924 Merc dime was also uncovered about 5" deep. It is neat to find coins that span 150 years at the same site.

The last piece is some sort of colonial coin. It has a ship on one side. Look for a post called "Colonial coin, what is it?"

Thanks for reading my long post. I just had to write and get caught up for the past few hunts.

I hope you get to hunt that site over and over. I bet you find more great stuff there.

The shoe buckle is a killer find, and the buttons and other relics just topped it off!

Burdie, we have another hunt planned for the fall after the rest of the field is cut down. That side should be productive as it is where we found all the oldest finds.

That is one of the coolest shoe buckle finds I've seen on TNet. Amazing it has kept its shape and detail after all these years, Congrats!

Now that's what I'm talking about Ed!!!Great find's and Congrat's on the 2 center  It look's like that buckle would hurt your feet after about 2 second's.Nice Job

Thanks pjroo33, this is certainly a beautiful buckle. It has 7 flowers on each end and 14 across each side. Each flower has 9 petals and each one is hand stamped. There are small triangle decorations all the way around the outside and inside too. The old buckles are so much fun to find. One can only imagine how long it took to make something like that. This one kept a lot of detail, the center loop was dislodged from the frame and the fork was broken off. Still a great piece of work though.

Nice getting the whole buckle !!

I have one similar minus the center piece :(

Congrats :occasion14:

Hi Crusader funny you say that. One of my detecting partners is from the UK and he says the same thing. They just don't last in the soil over there. He says that the basalt does a number on them. He has found two beauties over here in the US, both with me on two consecutive hunts. He is very happy.
