Found some amazing silver pieces within the last 3 months or so. Never got around to posting but here I am now! First is this bowl from a store that usually catches everything. I have never found a Paul Revere Reproduction piece in sterling silver before, weighs 450 grams and has a plastic protector on the inside that comes out. It was $2.99. Can't believe this piece was missed as the sterling mark is so big and clear.

The next piece is a heavy tray weighing in at 670 grams made of 900 silver from Chile I believe. The tray is from a Commander in the Navy who served in several wars. Frederick E. Saling was a commander who joined the service after Pearl Harbor. I am assuming the tray is a reward he received while stationed in Chile. I have not been able to translate the writing on the tray completely yet. It may be pretty hard to read from the pictures. "Inspired by the attack on Pearl Harbor, Cdr. Saling entered the U.S. Navy in 1943 and served as an Ensign in the Supply Corps in the South Pacific during World War II. After the war, he chose to continue in the Navy and served many other posts, including carrier duty aboard the U.S.S. Yorktown during the Korean War and overseas stations in Vina del Mar, Chile and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He also served as a liaison officer in Brasilia, where he participated in the inauguration of the new capital. After rising to the rank of Commander, he retired from the Navy in 1964." I paid $7.99 for it. Still awestruck that this ended up at a thrift store...

I think you are on an awesome winning streak!!!

You have a great eye for silver. Congrats

Wow! Sure seeing some good hits on silver lately. That's some serious weight.

Those are two awesome pieces. It truly is amazing how these end up at thrift stores. It just proves the next generation does not like formal silver. They inherit the stuff and just give it away to thrift stores

Those are stunning pieces!! What an amazing find.

Ain’t that the truth,

Great finds

Nice finds!! I think the "reproduction" mark throws them off. I found a 10" Paul Revere bowl at a thrift shop and it had the same marks. Maybe they think its silver plate since it says "reproduction"

I bet you were grinning as you paid for them lol

Years ago, I found a box at a thrift store full of papers and photo albums which belonged to a Brig. Genl. Ott. He was the commander of the US Air Corp base "Burtonwood" in England during WWII, which was the main repair depot for shot up planes. It had speeches he gave to the workers, hundreds of classified and official photos, etc. It even had photographs of him speaking with the royal family, Ike Eisenhower, Winston Churchill, and movie stars from the time. B17's, parachute packers, nose art, etc.... I still have the collection, and it amazes me how a family member would let this stuff go.

Outstanding finds, congrats! :icon_thumleft:
