Re: HT&S Gilt button?

Hammond Turner and Sons...Circa 1840-1850 Royal Navy button. Looks about right to me. But I am a rookie Identifier! jgas

I agree on the possibility of Hammond, Turner & Sons also, style and time frame match.

Re: HT&S Gilt button?

What's the front look like Merf? Sporting Button or Club Button or Militaria. They made them all at the Snow Hill Birmingham Company. Could be dating as far back as very early 1800's, say 1810-1815 too. I am still digging around for more. But that should get ya a start. jgas

Re: HT&S Gilt button?

This link has Hammond Turner & Dickenson (HT&D)the predecessor to Hammond Turner & Sons making Royal Navy buttons from 1800-1823. http://www.scribd.com/doc/12769882/Button-Makers-and-Their-Backmarks-G-to-M-

It has the Hammond Turner & Sons (HT&S) backmark used on plain gilt buttons from 1823-1865. They were noted for fine sporting buttons.

I think this is SOLVED. If you feel the same, give it the green check.solved check.gif

Re: HT&S Gilt button?

What is not solved is the mystery of what other great finds you are making these days, Merf. I can't wait until your next post. Best wishes for a productive harvest window, my friend.

Thanks Buckles and thanks to all who responded.
It has been slim pickins since the field sites are planted and thus off limits for hunting.
Best luck my friends.
