First thing that comes to mind is the 1265 has lots more wear and tear on it. It also does not have the Lifetime Warranty you bought it with anymore and service for these oldies can cost plenty if they can be repaired at all due to new components in the industry. Also the new Tesoro's are way lighter with more power and depth and sensitivity range. Battery power lasts longer due to less drain. The coils are of higher quality and lighter also. :read2:

The 1265-X was a good detector in its day and if you enjoy using it keep doing so. But the fun increases with a new Tesoro. You've got to visit the Tesoro website to see the new ones. http://www.tesoro.com/

1265X is still excellent for the beach though

I hunt with a guy that is 71 and use's a 1260x and he son 45 use's a 1265x and they spank us everytime we hunt together... And they have been using them a long time....
Also, konw of a guy that used a 1265x for years, it died, and now he uses a 1266x and has been for 11 yrs....

The 1265 and 1266 were awesome machines and still great even by today's standards, but where I think the Tejon has them beat is in its discrimination at depth. You can still end up digging deep nails with a Tejon, but based on my (slowly increasing) experience with the 1266 and my much greater experience with the Tejon, it's not quite as likely to find deep nails with the Tejon. In other words, the small iron discrimination is better on the Tejon. That is the one thing that has improved in 20 years, even where they can't squeeze a whole lot more depth out of the VLF's any more.

I also think the discrimination on the Tejon does not affect the depth so much as it does on a 1265 / 1266. But that part could be my imagination.

If the 1266 were still being made new and still had the warranty, I would still go for the Tejon, just based on the "deep nail" situation. I also think the knobs on the Tejon are easier to manage with one thumb. And of course the Tejon is a little lighter to swing.
