How's about an ID on a pipe?

I know its a clay pipe but don't know anything about it. Who the lady might be, the company that made it, age, or anything else of historical value. The top part of the pipe has some damage but as you can see she displays well. The metal piece is also original. Swiz

Here is a site on pipes!
http://www.ramshornstudio.com/pipes2.htm
There are for pages on different types of pipes and other smoking related objects.
I might have one with your pipe in it but will take sometime to look through them all.
I think the one I gave the Url for is the era of yours.
Take Care! :hello:

Gotcha!
The Duchess of Devon by Charles Crop
Charles Crop (& Sons) was a famous London firm who produced many elaborate well made pipes from the 1840's until 1924. They designed large numbers of very realistic looking portrait pipes as well as animals, bird claws and large display pieces. Often the designs have registration numbers on them and some were copied by other makers. This marvellous pipe is thought to depict the 18th Century Duchess of Devon, Georgiana Cavendish with her very large fashionable hat as painted by Gainsborough

Re: How's about an ID on a pipe?

Very cool info guys. I'll cruise that link in a bit. I'm gonna leave this unsolved for a day, maybe 2 tops just to see if I can get any other info on it. I think for the most part its solved though. As far as it being clay I guess it could be something else. I just assumed it was clay. It be cool to find out it was carved bone or tusk. I'll see about the serial numbers. That is just too cool but then again such an extravagant pipe I should have counted on some very cool history on it. I'll copy and paste the info and print it out for my friend so that he can have it. Thanx again guys. Your awesome. Swiz

I haven't found anything on that first link but the second one has a nice little tidbit about her. I might have to get into pipe collecting. A lot of cool pieces in there. Swiz
